The Franchise Model

Our franchise model is at the core of Jua Hope Trust’s sustainable and scalable approach to empowering women and creating lasting social change. It enables us to expand the reach of our shelter-restaurant initiative, bringing financial independence to women while also offering a solution to the deep-rooted issue of FGM and domestic violence.

The architectural model

How the Franchise Model Works

The franchise model was born out of the collaborative work between the Kenyarera Women Group and Jua Hope Trust during a social entrepreneurship course in 2020. It was designed to give local women a self-sustaining way to fund their own shelters, breaking free from dependence on donations.

Each new shelter-restaurant, established in partnership with local women’s groups, operates as an independent social enterprise. Franchisees benefit from training, operational support, and a proven business model, while the franchise fees are reinvested to fund new shelters. This system creates a ripple effect—each new shelter supports the creation of more, allowing us to reach more women and girls in need.

Economic Empowerment

Local women are trained in professional cooking, management, and entrepreneurship, gaining skills that lead to long-term financial independence and helping them establish their own businesses or career paths.

Scalability

By replicating the Shelter-Restaurant in other regions, we can increase our impact and become less reliant on external funding. A share of the profits from the entrepreneurial activities will allow us to secure funding for new shelters.

Social Change

Each franchise becomes a community hub, promoting women’s rights and advocating against harmful cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation/ Cutting or gender-based violence paving the way for the new generation.

Our Vision

Through this franchise model, Jua Hope Trust aims to build a network of women-led shelters across Kenya and eventually expand into other countries like Tanzania, Sierra Leona and more. By doing so, we will create a sustainable system that both empowers women and actively contributes to eradicating FGM and domestic violence. In this way and through our eco-friendly architectural design we support 12 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
